Reimagined Tree of Life Selects Inaugural Chief Financial and Operations Officer
As CFOO, Robin Cohen brings over 30 years of experience in finance, operations, new business development and administration in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors
PITTSBURGH – The new national institution dedicated to ending antisemitism housed at the site of the worst antisemitic attack on United States soil announced its first chief financial and operations officer.
Robin Cohen, who most recently served as the chief financial and operations officer at Moving Traditions, will serve as the reimagined Tree of Life’s inaugural chief financial and operations officer (CFOO).
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to assist Tree of Life and its community on the journey of rebuilding and renewal," said Robin Cohen, Tree of Life’s new CFOO. “ This institution is composed of profoundly passionate people that I eagerly look forward to working with. Together we will create the sanctuary and educational space this community deserves.”
Cohen starts her new role as demolition begins at the Tree of Life site, where a reimagined building designed by Studio Libeskind in collaboration with Rothschild Doyno Collaborative of Pittsburgh, will house an educational center to mobilize upstanders against identity-based hate and the first-ever museum exploring the roots and manifestations of antisemitism in the United States. The official 10/27 memorial will also be at the site at the corner of Shady and Wilkins Avenues in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood.
“I look forward to collaborating with Robin as she embarks on her tenure as Tree of Life’s new CFOO,” said Carole Zawatsky, Tree of Life’s CEO. “Robin’s dedication and years of experience in the finance sector will help our institution achieve the longevity and prosperity that we all hope for, especially as we continue to navigate this tumultuous time for the Jewish people.”
As chief financial and operations officer, Cohen will manage the organization's finances and day-to-day operations in close partnership with Zawatsky.
“Robin will make an excellent CFOO for the reimagined Tree of Life as she truly understands the significance and responsibility of this role,” said Michael Bernstein, chair of the Tree of Life Interim Governance Committee (IGC). “I have complete faith and trust in her to help guide our community along this collective journey. She will undoubtedly serve us well and I look forward to working together.”
Previously, Cohen served as a chief financial and operations officer at Moving Traditions. She specializes in non-profit accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and strategic planning. She brings a wealth of expertise to the Pittsburgh business landscape since relocating to the city in June 2022. Cohen also has a strong background in private investment banking and financial services companies. A full biography can be found online.
